Mugler Spring/Summer 2012 | Paris by Nicola Formichetti
When we look at a collection we keep in mind these four things:
1. Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.”
2. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, “Nothing is more fearful than imagination without taste.”
3. Alexander Pope, ”Genius creates, and taste preserves. Taste is the common sense of genius; without taste, genius is only sublime folly.”
4. Francois de La Rochefoucauld, “Taste may change, but inclination never.”
When analyzing a collection, we observe it from different point of views. We set out to be objective by separating our personal inclinations from the designer’s artistic expression (What is the designer trying to say?). We then note the reactions of the few (the editors, the bloggers) from the opinions of the many (the public, determined by $ales). Taking into account all these factors, we take something positive out of most collections.
What are your thoughts on this collection? :)
